I specialize in furniture and art restoration and perform these repairs as requested, on-site, in the home.
50 Years' Experience
In high school, my employment was in the repair shop of an antique store whose owner was a retired industrial arts shop teacher. After graduation, I continued my apprenticeship for three years employed by a German cabinet maker. Just prior to my twenty-first birthday, I returned to the antique store as its new owner.
Whether moving regionally or cross country, your relocation presents unique challenges. In your new environment, you are not familiar with the local resources and it’s difficult to find just the right person to perform your moving claim inspection and provide the estimates required by your mover.
Some Touchup Jobs Are More Challenging Than Others
Ray Spencer has the technical skills to repair your broken and damaged furniture on-site.
50+ years of experience repairing in the home:
Piano Touchup & Repair
Conventional lacquer and varnish finishes can usually be repaired on-site. The serious damages include broken legs and crushed corners resulting from mishaps during the moving process. I specialize in repairing polyester finishes. Regardless of the cause of damage, in-the-home touchup can usually resolve most problems and make everything look as good as new.
Furniture Repair & Touchup
I’ve been doing in-the-home furniture touchup and repair for 50 years — not as a sideline but for the most part, four or five days a week, year after year, going into customers’ homes and repairing nicked, scratched, and gouged furniture. Most of my work is servicing damage claims for the movers, but very often, I’m called directly by the homeowner to provide my services.
Repair & Refinishing
Furniture becomes weakened from use and needs to be reglued. Movers break things up and parts need to be replaced and the items rebuilt. Oftentimes these repairs can be accomplished on an in-the-home service call. Otherwise, I take them back to my shop. I also offer restoration of broken masks and other decorative pieces.
